My kids (bless their hearts) know how much daddy loves to grill in the summer. So last year they surprised me with a real nice set of fancy grilling tools for Father's Day. Their faces lit up as I opened the box and they saw how happy I was with what they had picked out. These utensils were beautiful...rich, cedar handles, hi-carbon stainless steel shafts, brushed copper rivets, an engraved hickory carrying case...just beautiful.  Brought tears to my eyes. Â
I had never been so proud of my kids (sure beat the gift certificate to the health club they gave me the year before).  However, after two grillings and one summer rain storm, those beautiful utensils looked just as dirty and beat up as any you'd find hanging from any ol' grill anywhere. The kids were so disappointed (and so was their mother who spent a fortune on those things!). It was a sad day at the homestead, to say the least.
That is why I decided never to invest in any fancy, hi-end grill tools again.  After all, they don't make the food taste any better. You don't need fancy to pull a burger off the fire. I just wanted something that would get the job done. That's when I found this nifty set of utensils that do just that.  Nothin' special, just a nice set of hard-working, American grill tools. And they were so cheap, I bought three . I keep one set out by the grill and two more in the garage for back-up and for those weekend tailgating parties.Â
Besides, I'd rather use the money I saved on some gormet ground beef and a big bag of mesquite chips...hmmm.
